Business Case

Staff mobility is a reality in the modern world. A great number of employees take part in different meetings and conference while travelling on business or even on vacations. Employees join teleconferencing using their mobile devices, although background noises annoy both themselves and other teleconference participants. Conferences take longer than planned and become less effective.

Business Concept

The ITFORYOU company developed a special Conference Denoiser mobile App which, being installed on a mobile device (smartphone, tablet), adapts audio signal (both incoming and out coming) according to the type of background noises and also the audio signal can be adjusted in accordance with individual characteristics of user’s hearing and sound reproduction level (fig. 1).

An end-user can participate in a conference at different noisy locations: industrial enterprise, while travelling (by car or train or any other vehicle), or even at his/her vacations, or any other location with noisy surroundings.

The application integrates into teleconferencing system (client-side at a mobile device). The proposed solution secures higher efficiency of on-line meetings and conferences and, as a result, will be in demand among users of teleconferencing systems.

Partner Model and Lead

The ITFORYOU offers partnership to companies developing teleconferencing systems.
We adapt the Conference Denoiser to integrate it with a client side of a teleconferencing solution.
App design can be adapted to a corporate design of a teleconferencing system and appropriate branding can be used.
We place the integrated plugin on App Store and/or Google market and Windows Store, and provide technical support including adaptation of the plugin to changes in your system’s client. Windows solutions for tablets, laptops and workstations can be placed either on your Web-resource or at our website in the private partner area.
The ITFORYOU guarantees free trial period for 3-6 months.

Partner model

The ITFORYOU offers various partner models:

  • Annual license, the cost of which is based on the popularity of a teleconferencing system and does not depend on the number of downloaded/used conference plugins. In this case, after the trial period is over, the Partner pays the cost of license in equal sums monthly or quarterly.
  • The ITFORYOU receives payments for Conference Denoiser App by each user individually. ITFORYOU pays ХХ% (to be negotiated!) of each user’s payment to the PARTNER on monthly or quarterly basis. A PARTNER monitors number of downloads and payments by the App Store and/or Google market and/or Windows Store tools. The ITFORYOU provides the PARTNER full access to the statistics.

Conference Denoiser Detailed functional App description

1. Incoming audio signal processing

  • The basic technique of Denoiser is automatic adjustment to the type of surrounding noise and balanced amplification only of those signal elements which are muffled by ambient noises. The patented technology which yields in efficiency to no active noise reduction devices allows communicating in aggressive noise environment by either using standard headset or not. The applied technique allows keeping high quality of audio signal of 44,1 kHz (16 bits) and provides the best performance in constant noise environment (public transport, streets, working areas, near noisy household appliance, etc.).
  • “Natural” is a technology enhancing user’s audio perception and keeping their hearing safe by processing the signal according to their individual hearing characteristics. It levels distortions brought in by sound reproduction systems. An amplification formula is used here: it functions in accordance with natural hearing curve and is intended for people without any hearing pathologies whose hearing, however, is subject to stress because of their professional activity. Broadband signal processing (without sub-band decomposition) provides the highest quality of voice communication and high intelligibility by keeping sibilants in the speech. It does not reduce the band of the processed signal. If the headset is used, the signal is processed binaurally, if not – then the application automatically detects near which ear the device is placed and processes the signal according to the appropriate hearing profile for this ear. A formula of natural hearing curve amplification is applied; it uses the data of user’s hearing test by 9 bands per each ear.

2. Outcoming audio signal processing

  • “Compression” means leveling sound volume which allows the conversation partner to better hear quiet sounds.
  • “Microphone noise clipping” is a technology used to clip the artifacts of microphone equipment, such as low-frequency noise. The technique filters the outcoming sound and eliminates a number of unpleasant sounds which can appear:
    1. when a user accidentally touches the headset microphone;
    2. when a user “spits” into a microphone, pronounces plosives such as “P” and so on.
  • “Distinctive voice” is a technology of changing voice pattern which brings a slight and delicate change while keeping the voice natural and recognizable. This technology has a cumulative action the effect of which grows with the duration of a dialogue and puts the accent on those parts which, due to various reasons, are either unavailable or causing difficulties.

3. Supported operating systems:

  • Windows – selected effects (of technologies) are implemented via audio devices drivers.
  • iOS - implemented via Audio Unit Extension technology which allows creating separate modules connected to the applications through voice communication.
  • Android – individual integration solutions for certain voice communication applications.

IMPLEMENTATION

The server-side application implements technology for both phone and VoIP systems.

The technology can work with wide range of communication devices of end-users – laptops, tablets, smartphones, mobile phones.

The technology allows to use all the above listed devices both with, and without headsets.

Amendments

Petralex formula deals with counting the amplification coefficients for correction of amplitude-frequency characteristic of a sound reproduction device. The main idea is that normal (without any pathological changes) person’s hearing has a certain audibility limit in silence, and by using this limit amplitude-frequency characteristic of a sound reproduction device can be estimated.

Calculation principle

According to Petralex formula, target amplification coefficients K are calculated in decibels by K(f)=T ̂_h (f)-T_h (f) where f is frequency (Hz), T_h (f) is standard audibility limit (dB), T ̂_h (f) is audibility limit changed by in situ audiometry on the present sound reproduction device (dB). In practice, a user estimates audibility limits by tone signals with increasing amplitude, from minimum possible value to the maximum one. Signal of frequency 30, 45, 60, 90, 125, 187, 250, 375, 500, 750, 1000, 1500, 2000, 3000, 4000, 6000, 8000, 12000, 16000 Hz are usually used.

History

Petralex formula is used in Petralex smartphone and tablet application which implements digital hearing aid with a built-in procedure in situ audiometry. The application appeared on AppStore in February 2014. As compared to other formulas of target amplification calculation implemented in the application (NAL, Berger and Pogo), which are used for hearing loss correction, Petralex formula is meant for users with normal (or close to normal) hearing.

Amplitude-frequency characteristic correction effect of sound reproduction device

When a signal is corrected by a filter approximating amplification coefficients K(f) calculated by Petralex formula, a listener gets a subjective effect of balanced sounds of various frequencies regardless of any distortions in amplitude-frequency characteristic of sound reproduction device and mild cases of hearing impairment.
